META BUILD embodies the vision of transforming buildings towards a decarbonised and sustainable energy system
Key Technologies:
To address the urgent need for decarbonization in the building sector, META BUILD will adapt technologies already at Technology Readiness Levels (TRL) 5-6 to a higher TRL (6-8), integrating them to provide electrified solutions.
The technologies involved in META BUILD are Heat pumps (HPs), Photovoltaic Thermal collectors (PVTs), and Thermal and second-life battery storage systems.
Ultimately AI, Digital Twin technologies are considered to maintain and monitor building’s performances in real-time.
Where:
META BUILD will provide electrified solutions for residential and commercial buildings in Austria, Croatia, France, Greece, Italy, Spain.
Six buildings have been chosen as Front Runners, strategically selected in different countries and climate zone to address the building complexity and challenges.
These include the retrofit of two multi-family buildings in Austria and Croatia, the renovation of a historic office complex in France, the construction of a new single-family home in Greece, the complete renovation of a multi-family building in Italy, and the expansion of TECNALIA’s headquarters in Spain.
The solutions developed will be extended to seven additional buildings, known as Multipliers, in Bulgaria, France, Germany, Greece, Latvia, Poland, and Spain. This phase will also involve assessing interactions between buildings and local energy infrastructures, guided by policymakers, decision-makers, and relevant associations.
How:
A holistic approach will address challenges throughout the building life cycle, including product manufacturing, energy solution design and engineering, construction, renovation, operation, and maintenance.
